Emerging details now indicate that Deputy President William Ruto is discreetly establishing inroads into the Luo Nyanza region ahead of his 2022 presidential candidature.
According to the Standard on Saturday, the DP is reported to be silently nominating his point men, especially former Members of Parliament and county assembly, as part of his scheme to lure the region to his side.
However, this is a pointless move that risks an early failure, as the region has for several decades remained behind opposition leader Raila Odinga, fully backing him in almost all his presidential shots, a trend that is likely to continue and repeat itself in the contest.
Ruto, therefore, is likely to end up wasting both his time and money in the process, as a portion of his campaign budget will be directed towards sponsoring the point men, who will ultimately record very low or no success.
He will only subject himself to humiliation, as the plans will ultimately be unearthed but his side will record close to nothing, unless he manages to secure the former Prime Minister's support.
Lastly, the plan will be disadvantageous to his point men as they will probably be considered traitors by joining Ruto who has for a long time engaged Odinga in a war of words, rendering them hard sells in the region and paralysing their chances of bouncing back in future elections.
