Deputy President William Ruto has declared that he will vie for the presidency in 2022.
Ruto is the front runner to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta, who he supported in 2013 and 2017.
Currently, Ruto has the headache of choosing a running that will ensure that he wins with maximum.
Fears have been rife that Ruto might be betrayed by the Mt. Kenya region in 2022.Recently, Nairobi governor Mike sensationally stated that leaders from Mt. Kenya were secretly meeting at night plotting how they can block Ruto’s presidential bid.
In a bid to avoid possible betrayal from Mt. Kenya, Ruto has been urged to pick Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru as his running mate.
Waiguru is not new to controversy after the infamous NYS scandal where over Sh1 billion was lost through fraudulent deals.
Among Kenyans, Waiguru should take full responsibility for the loss since she was in charge. So far, nobody has been convicted over the scandal and having Waiguru as a running mate will mean the end of Ruto’s political career.
Waiguru is seen as the iron ladies of Kenyan politics, however, the NYS cloud will not go away soon.Even though she was elected overwhelmingly by Kirinyaga residents, this does not mean that the rest of Mt. Kenya has ‘forgoven’ her.
In choosing a running mate from Mt. Kenya, Ruto should look for a leader who appeals to the rest of the country.
