The Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader Isaac Ruto has called for the disbandment of the Senate.
Speaking on Saturday at Tumoi in Chepalungu constituency, Ruto noted that the Senate had diverted from its roles.
“The first Senate started turf wars with governors and I don’t expect anything better with the current house. As usual, I would like to be forgiven for speaking my mind,” Ruto said as quoted by the Standard.
The former Bomet governor added that senators were not after fighting for an increase of revenue in the counties but are after unseating the current governors in future polls.
“This is the reason senators have proved that they are not interested in fighting for an increase of revenue to the counties because if the resources are increased, sitting governors will perform and will, therefore, be hard to unseat by senators who don’t have any money,” he noted.
According to the CCM boss, the abolition of the Senate would enable Parliament to work more closely with the Council of Governors (CoG) and members of county assembly.
