Rutto, who was allegedly injured by a teargas canister, added that he had a broken bone which needed high level surgery and that he was accompanied by doctors from Nairobi Hospital.

Speaking during a live interview with KTN Leo on Monday, the outspoken governor dismissed claims that he had faked the injured for political reasons.

"I had to fly for high level treatment in South Africa after Nairobi Hospital doctors recommended. They could not operate on me due to a fractured bone near my eye which could easily lead to blindness," he said.

"After all, I was still accompanied by two of them to South Africa. The operation took over three hours and I can assure you that it was not to seek political mileage. The injury was such horrible," added Rutto.

The Chama Cha Mashinani boss has been at loggerheads with Deputy President William Ruto, in what is many pundits attributes to political supremacy in vote rich Rift Valley region.
