Did you know that the Seventh Day Adventist church has the hugest following in Nyanza?
Here is a brief history of the church.
Pastor Carscallen and his wife landed in Mombasa town in 1905 with the aim of preaching the gospel.
Due to the high number of Muslims in the region they used rail transport to Nairobi and later to Kisumu where they still faced competition from other churches as they spoke about SDA.
They then decided to move South of Nyanza where a man by the name Simba Osumba gave them land.
The two missionaries set up a church (on the donated land) in 1906, which was the ever first church in the region.
Due to lack of competition, they attracted alot of followers and the gospel through the church spread to near towns like Kisii.
The abagusii then stood strong and believed in the church.
To win their souls fully, Pastor Carscallen set up a mission centre in Nyanchwa, Kisii, in 1912.
Since then, the people considered the church beneficial; in education, gospel campaigns and support for orphans leading to a wide acceptance.
In 2006, SDA celebrated 100 years of standing strong.
