The need to beat youthful aspirants has driven veteran politicians in the Coast region to join ‘favourite’ parties with the hope of winning seats in next year’s poll.

In an interview with The Star, Maur Bwanamaka, a politician, said most of these leaders have decided to play their cards in a different manner for fear of losing.

Bwanamaka, however, said there are chances that these leaders are likely to go back to their parties in future.

“Most politicians decamp due to the discomfort they feel in their parties. Despite joining other parties, chances of them going back to their original parties are high because that is where their hearts are,” said Bwanamaka.

A few days ago, Kenya’s Ambassador to Tanzania Chirau Mwakwere declared interest in the race to unseat Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya in 2017.

Mwakere, who has been a strong critic of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, is now seeking his support in order to win the seat.

On his part, former Likoni MP Suleiman Shakombo has so far changed political parties twice as he weighs his political future in the next general election.
