Uasin Gishu Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar has expressed concerns over a low number of students joining Technical Training Institutes (TTI) in the county.
Prof Kamar lamented that despite TTI ’s having state of art equipment’s, the turnout is still very low even as the country's demand for technical skills is high.
“As leaders from this county, we are not happy with the current enrolment of students at different TTI’s. It is unfortunate that an institution like Kipkabus Technical and Vocation Training has an enrolment of only 80 students,” said Prof. Kamar in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
The Senator who is also an educationist reiterated that for the country to achieve vision 2030, the youth must be equipped with technical skills and knowledge that will help drive the development agenda.
“I want parents to do away with the notion that TTI ’s are meant for failures. TTI’s are very vital in this era where we have a scarcity of white collar jobs. Having skills from such institutions will enable the youth to employ him/herself," she said.
Kamar advised parents to allow their children to join the technical and vocational training institutions so as to purse technical curses which she said can enable the youths even study in universities.
