The contest between Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti for the Wiper ticket took a new twist on Monday after aspirants allied to the Senator demanded that he should be given direct nomination.
The duo is seeking to oust Governor Hassan Joho in the August general election.The aspirants drummed up support for Omar saying he is the best candidate as Wiper eyes the Mombasa governorship.According to the Star, they also opposed the delegates system of nominations.“The NEB should give Hassan Omar the nomination and will deliver the governor seat early in the morning,” said Mjambere MCA Khamis Mwabashiri at a news briefing.Mwabashiri and Jackson Malii (Wiper Changamwe chair) further stated that they don’t want the proposed 600 delegates to nominate a candidate.However, Awiti’s supporters have rejected direct nominations.
