The appointment of nominated Senator Agnes Zani as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) acting secretary general didn’t come as a surprise to many ODM supporters.
Senator Zani is among ODM’s few loyalists and her interest in the secretary general seat before might have made the ODM National Executive Council to appoint her as acting secretary general.
The nominated senator has been vocal in the party and is considered as Raila Odinga’s trusted loyalist.
Zani had campaigned for the ODM secretary general’s post in the botched 2014 party elections at Kasarani before the seat was handed over to Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba.
The resignation of Ababu has given the nominated senator an opportunity to take over and push for reforms in the party.
On Thursday ODM NEC said that Zani will act as secretary general for the time being before a new SG is elected.
Some of the work awaiting the nominated senator is to prepare for Raila Odinga’s visit to the Western region starting this weekend.
Raila is expected to pitch camp in Western as part of plan to counteract rebellion caused by Ababu and others who have resigned from their positions in ODM and decamped to other parties.
Raila will also hold rallies in Budalangi , the home turf of Ababu and other western areas.
