Kisii Governor James Ongwae's succession and establishment of de facto leadership are key among reasons why Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati is becoming increasingly unwanted in both Kisii and Nyamira Counties.

Early this year,  the second term MP was installed as the Gusii community spokesperson, a function that was widely snubbed by local leadership.

Even with his persistent denial that he is not interested with Kisii gubernatorial seat,  his critics have dismissed his agenda, with some labelling him an outsider.

"It is not about contesting for governor because I am not interested,  it's all about pushing for unity in our region," he said last week at a tour in Nyamira.

But political bigwigs from the region seems unhappy with him, with Kitutu Chache South's Richard Onyonka coming out to present himself as alternative for Arati.

"He is young and resides in Nairobi. I am fit to be spokesperson," he said.

The most furious person to Arati's quest is Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, who has persistently dismissed Arati as an intruder.

On Thursday, Maangi was quick to dismiss Arati's criticism on proposed sugarcane factory in South Mugirango,  saying Arati should be concerned with Nairobi politics.

"We can't be lectured by outsiders on what is good or bad for our people.  He should instead diverge his energies to Nairobi."

Historian Pro Nyachieo Bogonko however says,  the opposition against Arati is not peculiar given the relevance of being spokesperson.

"Young people seems to buy Arati's narrative and this will make politicians uncomfortable," he says.
