The ODM Elections Board Commissioner for Western region Norah Owino has clarified why some party aspirants did not receive nomination certificates during the issuance ceremony in Kakamega on Wednesday.

Among those who were not issued with certificates include Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, Bungoma gubernatorial aspirant Alfred Khangati and Teso North parliamentary candidate Lawi Mamai.

“The certificates of the three are in Nairobi and are not yet signed,” Owino said.

“Their names are also in the list of candidates forwarded to the IEBC to beat Sunday’s deadline.”

Addressing aspirants in Kakamega, Owino said the failure by the trio to receive their nomination certificates was occasioned by delays in signing them.

"There should be no cause for alarm," she said.

The news caused anxiety and restlessness among supporters of the respective candidates who had come ready to celebrate with them.

Owino took the opportunity to call for unity among party members.

“Those who lost should support the party while those who won should embrace the losers,” she said.

“Signs are written on the wall, come August we will be in State House.”

After the event, Ojaamong and Mamai flew to Nairobi to pick their certificates.
