Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has explained why he came out to support EALA legislator Simon Mbugua during his court case last week.
Sonko said that the trial of Mbugua was a scheme orchestrated by people who were targetting him (Sonko).
He said there were political enemies who wanted to use the arrest of Mbugua as a means of provoking him at the helm of the Nairobi administration.
“It was a must for me to come and stand in solidarity with my friend Mbugua over his arrest which is part of the scheme to provoke and intimidate me. I still urge the police to arrest the goons who assaulted Muriuki because their faces are known,” said Sonko.
He said Mbugua was an innocent civilian and that it was curious to see police arrest him instead of the people who appeared in the assault videos over which he was arrested.
“There is something else being cooked to derail my administration and this has come out since the suspected goons attacked Muriuki. That will however be a story for another day which will be dealt with later,” the governor said.
