Kalonzo paid Sonko a courtesy call at his City Hall office on Tuesday and already political pundits are linking the meeting to 2022 succession politics.

According to political analyst Peter Ngure, the duo's meeting has everything to do with 2022.

“Governor Sonko has the numbers and influence and their meeting with Kalonzo revolves around 2022,” Ngure said.

He spoke to this writer in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.

Ngure said Kalonzo could be lobbying for Sonko’s support as part of his strategies for 2022.

He said Kalonzo is a smart politician and is not taking chances as he pushes for his 2022 bid.

The analyst said there are high chances of Sonko abandoning Jubilee and  working with Kalonzo in 2022.

Governor Sonko is serving his first term and has announced that he will not be seeking re-election in 2022.

Their meeting with Kalonzo on Tuesday according to sources focused on issues facing Nairobi among them garbage, traffic and high unemployment.

In the meeting, Kalonzo praised Sonko’s commitment in the fight against corruption, encouraging him to seek re-election in 2022.

Kalonzo is strategizing for 2022 and has hinted on re-branding his Wiper party to One Kenya Movement (OKM).

Early this month, Kalonzo’s bid received a major boost after he was endorsed by a section of Kamba leaders, clergy and professionals for the top seat.
