The unexpected nomination of self-declared NRM General Dr. Miguna Miguna by Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to deputize him has initiated many political views with many asking why Miguna?
Well according to Sonko, Miguna meets are the requirements provided for in the constitution but there might be hidden agenda in this nomination considering Sonko’s relation which the National government as far as Nairobi county is concerned.
Sonko might have nominated the outspoken lawyer due to his stand against illegitimacy and social justice. It is very clear that Sonko wants to get rid of the cartels from Nairobi and the best person to successfully help him fight this is Miguna. And because Miguna’s return to the country as a Kenyan citizen might take time and his vetting will not be easy and might take time, speaker Elachi clarified that.
Furthermore, the Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja, through his twitter handle, has said that Miguna cannot be Nairobi county’s deputy governor.
Therefore, Sonko does not want a deputy, at least for now; he wants to prove that he can still work without a deputy governor and use Miguna’s nomination to buy time.
The last reason that is much political is to boost DP William Ruto’s presidential support come 2022. Even though this seems impossible due to the enmity between the outspoken lawyer and DP Ruto, we all understand that there are not political enemies, the handshake proves.
Sonko has shown his support for Ruto and even unveil the alleged meeting between the Mount Kenya leaders to ouster Ruto. Which Miguna’s support, DP Ruto will be unstoppable since his drama with the state has gained him many supporters.
