Governor Mike Sonko's decision to nominate firebrand lawyer Miguna Miguna as his deputy is basically a good move considering that the two were competitors sometimes back during the electioneering period.

First, the move was wise as this would see rich ideas collected to put to an end all these blunders in the city. During the campaigns back in 2017, Miguna Miguna had his own manifesto, same to Governor Sonko. The two leaders will therefore put together these ideas and come up with a meaningful and executive framework to take the capital to where it should be.

Secondly, the move was meant to show some form of reunion. Governor Sonko and Miguna Miguna have seemingly not been in close political terms both in public and private. This move will therefore bring the two leaders together and as it is known - there is nothing good like rivals resolving to work together.

Thirdly, it seems Sonko has not been able to perform well because he lacked an assistant after Polycarp Igathe resigned early this year for failing to 'win his trust'. The nomination of Miguna Miguna will possibly inject an impetus to Sonko's performance as the two will support each other or even divide work between themselves just to ensure Nairobi is not what it is at the moment.

Should Miguna Miguna soar through all these barriers to the seat and become successful, the two will make a hybrid leadership fit for the city. Nairobi requires teamwork involving both leaders and residents. Coordination between the leaders and the residents is what will make the city rank better. For now things are surely messed up despite Sonko's efforts.
