Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut has tabled to the National Assembly the Athletics Endowment and Remuneration Fund bill.
The bill is passed and signed into law will help ensure the country's sportsmen and women who brought glory to the nation are renumerated by the government.
According to Chepkut, the sportspersons are yet to be recognized despite flying the nation's flag high at the international scenes.
“It is sad that despite our sportsmen and women representing us in international competition and making our country proud most of them die in poverty due to lack of recognition. Once the bill is passed this will be a thing of the past,” he said in Eldoret town, Sunday.
“The bill has now been approved and soon will be taken to the floor of the house for debate. It will also establish a fund that will provide supportive means of sportspersons upon retirement,” added the Ainabkoi legislator.
The Jubilee allied legislator further said the motion also seeks to ensure athletes make wise investments while they are still active.
He called upon fellow MPs to support the motion noting that it would help sportsmen and women.
