In a Gazette notice on Tuesday June 20, Nkaissery said the day will be used to mark the Idd-ul-Fitr holiday.
“It is notified for general information that Monday June 26, 2017 will be observed as a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr day, pursuant to section 3 of the Public Holiday Act,” read the notice.
This comes after Chief kadhi Sheikh Al-Muhdhar Hussien confirmed that the holy month of Ramadhan that commenced on May 27, 2017 is expected to end on June 25.
Idd-ul-Fitr, which means the festival of breaking the fast, is a holiday celebrated by Muslims to mark the end of the month of Ramadhan.
