Governor Granton Samboja disclosed they had supplied 7 tonnes of seeds to 1,200 farmers in Taveta sub-county and would extend the supply to Kasighau, Mkatau, Mwatate and other parts of the county.

The Agriculture Department held a meeting with the East Africa Malting's Limited Regional Agribusiness Manager Geoffrey Odaro, who said that the firm expects 3,000 metric tonnes of sorghum by the end of this season from the local farmers.

The produce is a key raw material for the brewing company.

The department is recruiting more farmers to benefit from the life changing programme, with members of Taveta Nafaka farmers cooperative having already benefitted from it.

The department will also offer extension services, hold 2 field days per Ward every month and come up with demonstration fields where farmers can be enlightened more on sorghum farming.
