Leaders in Taita Taveta County have lobbied for compensation of individuals whose land has been used by the government to put up projects.
Speaking during a courtesy call, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Lands Dr. Nicholas Muraguri and the Chairman of the National Land Commission Prof. Muhammad Swazuri assured the leaders led by Governor Granton Samboja, that the residents will be paid once funds have been released by Treasury.
The PS also pledged to have a survey conducted in order to clearly demarcate land boundaries.
"When defunct County Council wanted to subdivide land at Man Eaters, they asked residents to pay for these pieces of land. KWS however insisted that the land is theirs and went to court," lamented Samboja.
He urged the PS to intervene and have the land taken by KWS along the stretch of Mackinon to Tsavo River/Man Eaters reverted back to the community and Kishushe land be released by KWS.
"All public utilities and institution, ranches should also be given title deeds and renewal of those that have expired."
The leaders also requested for the adjudication process to continue and more title deeds issued to residents from across the County.
