Catholic Bishops have opposed NASA's calls for secession of some parts of the country from the rest of Kenya.

In a statement on Thursday, the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops said the church is convinced that national dialogue is the only way out of the current political stalemate.

Led by KCCB chairman Philip Anyolo, the Bishops warned that secession calls will only divide the country further.

“Having analyzed and reflected on the entire situation that has unfolded in Kenya, we have resolved to organize a National Dialogue Forum aimed at bringing all the sectors of the Kenyan society together to look at the true picture of the country and set the agenda for true discussion and resolutions,” he said.

“We have heard clarion calls for secession and civil obedience, demonstrations and protests, and boycotts which only increase tensions. Many Kenyans are on the brim of losing hope and living in despair,” he added.

Anyolo further hinted at the church stepping up as the voice of reason, announcing that religious leaders will attempt bringing all political players together for dialogue.

“We shall offer an opportunity to all Kenyan, especially the key political players to engage constructively in a bid to chat the way forward for the country," he remarked.
