An election observer has raised the alarm over the potentiality of dead voters casting their votes during the August polls.
Cases of ghost voters were reported in the chaotic 2007 general elections and the subsequent 2013 polls with the then opposition coalition Cord crying foul.
And now the Elections Observation Group (ELOG) said Thursday that should the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission go ahead to use a manual voter register following queries over the electronic format then ghost voters would get an opportunity to vote.
The group's member Marcos Ageng'a said IEBC was staring at a possibility of going the manual way if they fail to address decisively issues surrounding dead voters that they are yet to expunge from the register.
"The manual system does not capture unique identification features that the electronic voter identification device (EVID) is able to capture. As such anyone could be in a position to vote as long as they can provide their registration documents," he said.
He added that it was time the electoral body addressed the register issue if they are keeb on presiding on a transparent polls.
Ageng'a further called upon the other government agencies concerned with the registration of persons to supply the Iebc with correct details about those who have since died so that their names are expunged from the register.
