The government is set to train around 160,000 teachers to prepare them for the rollout of a new syllabus.

Training of the teachers kicked off this week.

The Ministry of Education through its Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang revealed that the teachers will have been equipped with the intended skills before Christmas.

Concerned headteachers have been told not to worry as the syllabus will be rolled out gradually.

Students who did their KCPE in 2016 and have not joined Form 1 have hope now given that Free Day Secondary Education starts next year.

Shem Ndolo who is the chairman of the Kenya Primary School Heads requested the government not to speed up the rollout of the new syllabus as time was needed to internalise it.

''We shall not rush it. We will roll it out in phases.'' Belio Kipsang' assured headteachers.
