The new occupant of the Attorney General docket Mr Paul Kihara Kariuku will not enjoy the same salary as his predecessor Mr Githu Muigai after it was revealed that he will have to deal with a 50 percent pay cut.
Githu was the best paid public servant pocketing a monthly salary of Sh2.7 million but the treasury now states that Kihara's salary will stand at Sh1.24 million.
The former AG enjoyed the cool salary after he was cushioned by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission(SRC) which declared that state officers whose pay had been set before the commission was set should continue receiving their wages.
However, while Muigai was in office the salary of an AG was pegged at between Sh792,000 to Sh1,056,000 meaning the new occupant of the office will receive his salary based on the new estimates set by the SRC.
This means that from July the new AG will receive a yearly wage of Sh14.9 million from the previous Sh32.9 million. The new figures represent a 54 percent reduction.
