The price of maize flour in the country could rise again despite the government's announcement of subsidising the price a fortnight ago, millers have warned.

Speaking on Tuesday, Cereal Millers Association chair Nick Hutchinson noted that the increase in the price of maize flour will be occasioned by unsteady supply of maize in the country.

"All millers have run out of maize. We are all waiting for the next vessel to arrive. The end of May is tight and we also suspect the end of June is going to be tight," he said.

"Lack of steady supply could see the prices of unga rise to Sh135 per 2kg packet of flour," he added.

A 2kg packet of flour is currently trading at an average cost of Ksh90 following a government directive earlier this month.

According to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett, the subsidised flour would last until end of September this year.
