Tiaty Member of Parliament Hon. William Kamtet has proposed new bill.
The Bill proposes a change in the current laws so that we have a one-term president, who is elected by Members of Parliament, and a Prime Minister who is elected by the people and will have more powers than the President.
Shall the bill be passed into a law, Deputy President William Ruto will be the one on the receiving end
Ruto will have to endure more negative impacts as compared to the positive ones. Some of the negative outcomes for him shall be:
1. He will only be a one-term president
The agreement in Jubilee Party was to see President Uhuru Kenyatta go for two terms of five years each, thereafter he will pave ways for William Ruto for two terms. The president is on his last term and Ruto will be next, but with new Bill, the agreement will be paralyzed
2. He will be a president with limited powers
The Deputy President will have less powers as compared to the prime minister. He will be just symbol of unity in the country
3. It cannot be guaranteed the DP will be the president
This is because the new bill says it is the Members of Parliament to elect him not the citizens. Meaning it will depend on members of the house that will be in Jubilee
