In the run up to the 2013 general election, gubernatorial candidate for Machakos County Alfred Mutua and his then running mate Bernard Kiala were best of friends.
They walked together, ate together, addressed gatherings together-and even wore similar suits. But three years down the line, the two cannot see eye to eye, thanks to political dynamics.
Mutua-Kiala breakup is just a typical example of many other possibilities in the region’s political power games likely to be witnessed in the days to come.
For instance, MPs Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town) and Vincent Musyoka (Mwala) who were elected on CCU party tickets literally cut their political ties with party leader Wavinya Ndeti.
The two legislators have been close allies of Governor Alfred Mutua, and have been vigorously backing Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap movement.
Political analysts predict there will be more complicated, and utterly surprising realignments as we approach the next general elections expected in August next year.
For now, we can only wait and see.
