It has been roughly three weeks since the dismissal of the Kenya Ferry Services Limited (KFSL) managing director Musa Hassan, and already operations at the Likoni channel have started improving.

Do you remember how often the media houses aired cases of stampedes that occurred due to failing engines of the overwhelmed ferries; and all the assurance from the MD that the issue would be addressed, only to be informed of his suspension?

The following are some of the reasons which have contributed to reduced public uproar in regards to KFSL service delivery.

The appointment of a new MD has greatly helped to reduce complaints from the regular users of the ferry. Bakari Gowa was appointed the new MD following President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to the KFS offices in Likoni.

The long serving private security company Texas, was replaced by Guard Force, after the former’s contract came to an end.

Majority of the residents who use the ferry complained of harassment by the officers who offered security services at the channel, a move that created animosity between the soldiers and ferry users.

The current company is reported to be offering good services, as none of the residents have complained of harassment.

Four to five ferries are operating in full capacity during morning and evening hours, unlike in the past where one or two ferries used to operate during peak hours, causing congestion.
