The County Government of Uasin Gishu has put in place a clear mechanism of drug distribution aimed at curbing the menace of some facilities being in short supply of drugs.
Chief Officer in charge of Health department Wilson Kemei said the strategy will be of great benefit as all County facilities will be receiving drugs according to the requisition made by the individual facility's pharmacist.
"Some facilities used to be given drugs which would stay without being used. We came up with a move that before any drug is issued out from the main store, the facility pharmacist requests the Sub-county pharmacist to write to the overall County pharmacist for approval," said Kemei when he toured the County's main drug store on Wednesday.
“The County pharmacist will be the one issuing the drugs as per the order made at the Sub County. At the drug store all drugs have been sorted and packaged according to all Sub County facilities across the county,” he added.
Kemei said the availability of the drug store will help on monitoring the usage of drugs in every facility as well as enabling the County pharmacist to contact the distributor on time.
"There is no point that patients will complain of lack of drugs now that we have a huge store that is capable of storing all kinds of pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceuticals,” he noted.
The county recently received drug consignment of Sh97 Million which will run the health facilities close to a year.
