That Deputy President William Ruto will be vying for the country's top seat in 2022 is no longer a secret.
Many people expect opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Senator Moses Wetangula to be Ruto's main challengers should former Prime Minister Raila Odinga retire.
However, Governor Jackson Mandago will also be a force to reckon with should he go for the top seat after he completes his two terms.
The governor has been a key political figure in Uasin Gishu and the entire Rift Valley region for the past six years he has been in politics.
Mandago is a dear to many voters in the Rift Valley owing to his good work in the county and a no-nonsense approach to handling issues.
In the run-up to the 2017 general election, Mandago gave the DP Ruto a hard time in Uasin Gishu as he disagreed with him on a couple of issues.
He even led a rebel group which endorsed a number of opposition candidates for different seats in the region.
Mandago is not as weak as many people think and should he decide to vie in 2022, he will give Ruto a run for his money.
