Opposition leader Raila Odinga is undoubtedly the kingpin of Luo Nyanza politics.
He has for the past few decades received overwhelming support from the region with his opponents and suffering humiliating loses.
The former Prime Minister is now aging and time has come for him to appoint a successor who will be the next Kingpin in the Luo Nyanza region.
Reports have been indicating that Siaya Senator James Orengo is the next in line, but I differ and opine that the Minority Chief Whip Junet Mohammed will be the next kingpin after Odinga retires.
This is because, Odinga trusts Junet. This was witnessed recently when the opposition leader picked the legislator to accompany him to Harambee House where they met President Uhuru Kenyatta and signed a unity pact.
The fact that Junet was appointed Minority Chief Whip in the National Assembly and also given a huge position in the Orange Democratic Movement only signals his closeness with the Odinga family.
Despite being a non-luo, Junet stands a high chance of being endorsed the next kingpin should Odinga hang his political boots.
Going into 2022, all eyes should be focused on the legislator and how he will play his political cards.
