The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has insisted that the election must go on today Thursday as planned.

Chebukati said that the commission was well prepared for the poll and that there were no legal constraints as was circulating in the public after High Court judge George Odunga declared illegal the appointment of Returning Officers.

The chairman also explained that security agencies have assured IEBC staff of their safety inspite calls by Opposition leaders for supporters to boycott and resist the election.

“All the polling stations will open tomorrow (today) from 6am for Kenyans to exercise their democratic right,” Chebukati said on Wednesday.

“I wish to announce to you today on behalf of IEBC, that based on assurances given to the commission by the relevant authorities and security agencies, based on the progress that has been made in the commission, the election as scheduled will go on," he said.
