Why Uasin Gishu has been on the NCIC radar the chairman to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Francis Ole Kaparo has raised concerns over the utterances that have been made by some of the political leaders in Uasin Gishu county.
Speaking during a meeting with candidates vying for various elective positions in the county, Thursday, Kaparo lamented that some of the utterances were inciting and threatening to the locals. He warned the candidates against engaging in divisive politics which he said might plunge the county into chaos.
"We have been monitoring this county for a time now because of the utterances that were being made by local leaders as some were threatening to our country's democratic right and we felt something had to be done before the situation is out of hand," noted Kaparo.
"Candidates need to understand that every eligible Kenyan has a right to vote for anybody and should not be forced to support anybody," he added.
NCIC for the past three days has held a series of meetings with elders, the clergy and political leaders in the county in what has been seen as a deliberate move to cool down the political temperatures that are as a result of a fierce political battle pitting gubernatorial candidates incumbent Jackson Mandago and businessman Bundotich Kiprotich better known as Buzeki.
The rivalry has threatened to divide the locals on ethnic lines.
