Uasin Gishu County has been appointed an 'ambassador' to champion a newly launched Kenya-Uganda trade program.

This is after the City of Champions hosted the first Uganda Trade Expo in its capital, Eldoret, a strategic connection point for the East Africa Community.Governor Jackson Mandago hosted Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Ababu Namwamba and Ugandan High Commissioner to Kenya Phibby Otaala for a courtesy call at his office.The Governor, flanked by his Deputy Daniel Chemno and Countywide Secretary Peter Leley, would then accompany the delegation to the opening of the Uganda-Kenya Expo at an Eldoret Hotel.This comes at the time when President Uhuru Kenyatta steps on the front line to open Kenya to EAC and Africa.Speaking during a meeting later, Mandago said the trade corporation, dubbed 'breaking artificial borders' will go an extra mile in strengthening trade ties between Uganda and Uasin Gishu.Already, tens of tonnes of passion fruits majorly from Uasin Gishu's Moiben Sub-County are exported to Uganda."Our farmers have found markets for fruits in Uganda, such expos will work well even as the region moves to open up borders to trade," said Mandago.The trade discussions will certainly be healthy for Uasin Gishu County and its umbrella North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB).Uganda is a major exporter of bananas and maize especially to Kenya and Rwanda.Eldoret is the biggest town and serves as a major market for Ugandan imports, including maize.
