A senior intelligence officer who was behind the late cancellation of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s trip to Nyangori and later on at Keroka town has revealed the reasons behind the decision.
Uhuru was scheduled to visit the region to open a water project at Nyangori before addressing a public rally, only to have his journey cancelled moments to taking a flight to the region from Ekerubo Gietai region.
The officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity said intelligence reports indicated that a number of youths had been bought whistles to interrupt the speeches of Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire and aspiring Governor Charles Mochama.
“We did intelligence in the region and found out that a number of youths had been bought whistles to target MP Timothy Bosire and aspiring Governor Charles Mochama. Because the president would not want to be dragged to such sideshows, we had to advise him the otherwise,” the officer said.
According to him, at Keroka, they also gathered information that the border intrigues between Kisii and Nyamira countries were to resurface in the presence of the Head of state.
“In Keroka, residents from Nyamira and Kisii counties were ready to openly show their differences in front of the president. We could not allow that because the boundary crisis was still under discussion by local leadership,” added the officer.
