Jubilee presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta. He has been warned on the proposed amendments to the electoral law. [Photo: The Star]Homabay Senator Moses Kajwang has poured cold water on the ongoing efforts by Jubilee Party to amend the electoral law 'to seal the gaps' that may have led to the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta's reelection by the Supreme Court.Kajwang has termed the just concluded public participation exercise at County Hall as 'absurd pretence' by Jubilee intended to create a pleasant and respectable opinion of the 'unconstitutional amendments'."The wording of the amendment is so dangerous. Jubilee has an axe to grind with the commission. The timing of these amendments is also suspect and personal. Nobody knows better than President Uhuru who promised a revisit of the Judiciary but we are warning him that he is not going anywhere with this one," Kajwang told KTN News on Thursday evening. He added: "These desperate amendments by Uhuru should be rejected by Kenyans because nobody needs them. All this rush is aimed at benefiting Uhuru. Changes to any law must be driven by the needs of the users. To whose advantage are these amendments being made?"Solicitor General Njee Muturi, however, said that lack of a clear pronouncement of the electoral law had made it hard to determine who the winner was on August 8, where errors and irregularities arose."The expression of the sovereign will of Kenyans is expressed at the ballot and nobody should take away that from them. We did have a good election but it was overturned because of technicalities. MCAs, MPS, Woman Reps, Senators and Governors are at risk of having their election overturned based on technicalities," said Muturi.
