President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri not to resign from the government.
Speaking on Saturday in Nanyuki during a voter registration sensitisation exercise, Uhuru Kenyatta revealed that he still needed Kiunjuri's services over what he termed as "political defence reasons."
“Allow me to have Mr Kiunjuri in government for the next five years. He is among my strong political protectors while criss-crossing the country. I will release him in 2022,” Uhuruu said as quoted by the Nation.
Kiunjuri was reportedly contemplating to vie for the Laikipia governorship seat and he was set to resign in February.
He has been in the forefront in defending President Kenyatta's administration, arguing that Jubilee has delivered much of what the party had pledged during the 2013 general election.
He joined government following the exit of former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru who quit over the NYS scandal.
