The election of young people and women into parliament during the August General exercise is a great milestone in the history of this nation, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.
According to the Head of State, the high number of youthful and women members of parliament elected in August is a clear sign of change. The President, who was addressing MPs during the opening of the 12th Parliament, said that he is confident of women’s leadership.
“I am very glad that the Kenyan people are also willing to give our youth opportunities to offer leadership,” he said, as quoted by Nation.
Uhuru, who is seeking the support of Kenyans for his second term, said that the youthful faces and women elected into power will bring change to this nation.
He challenged the women and youths who were given the mandate to lead Kenyans not to fail them. He further called upon to ensure better service delivery in their different capacities upon taking over power.
The remarks of the President come after his election was nullified by the Supreme Court. The court ruled in favor of NASA Presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga on the grounds that the constitutional guidelines were not followed by IEBC.
