Even when it seemed that President Uhuru Kenyatta had successfully conquered and ruffled the kinship of ODM leader Raila Odinga in the Coast region, he still has a long way to go even as the August 8th elections inch closer.

The Jubilee Party Coast chapter has been fumbling with contradictions that will undoubtedly dim his dream to get a share of the region’s 1.7 million votes.

The latest 72-hour ultimatum by the party leadership from the region to President Kenyatta to have a meeting with them further complicates his political arithmetic in the opposition-leaning region.

The Mombasa leadership has been having its problems with governor aspirant Suleiman Shahbal and his running mate Ananiah Mwaboza often engaged in supremacy battles amid claims that Shahbal is undermining his number two.

In the neighboring Kwale County, Women Rep. candidate Zainabu Chidzuga and Governor Salim Mvurya have not been seeing eye to eye despite belonging to the same party.

Chidzuga is said to be favouring Wiper Party candidate Chirau Ali Mwakwere for the top county position.

The situation is not any different in Tana River where Governor Hussein Dado and his bitter rival Danson Mungatana do not see eye to eye, though Mungatana is not a member of Jubilee Party his party has pledged to support President Kenyatta’s re-election.

In summary, save for Kilifi County where Jubilee politicians have vowed to work together, the remaining five counties have been dogged with supremacy battles that may handicap the President’s quest for the region’s votes.
