A source close to the President Uhuru Kenyatta has revealed that he is likely to lead the nation for 15 years if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) does not conduct an election as planned.
The source, who spoke to the Star on condition of anonymity, said that Uhuru’s first time will end in 2022 in the event of a crisis. This means that he will be eligible to contest for the seat when that time comes.
"His second term will start in 2022 if no election is held as ordered by the court. The Supreme Court has to be very careful with its ruling on Wednesday. Never dig a hole too deep for your enemy, you may fall in it," revealed the source, as quoted by Star.
According to the Constitution, a president is expected to lead the nation for two five years terms. The opposition leader has been lamenting that Uhuru wants to cling on power.
“We know what President Uhuru is planning, to be a life president. They want the Jubilee compliant judges and governors so that they can have their way. They even sponsored petitions against non-compliant governors. Uhuru is in office by fraud and not by the mandate of the people of Kenya,” Mr Odinga said, as quoted by Nation.
