According to the constitution, besides garnering 50+ 1 votes, President Uhuru is expected to get at least 25% of the total votes that will be cast in 25 counties. Uhuru’s re-election will be dented if the opposition manages to ensure that voting does not take place in at least five counties.
His chances of being declared the head of State continue to become slimmer each day. National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga has vowed to mobilize his supporters to boycott the fresh election.
The leaders backing Raila’s presidency will be fighting to ensure voting does not take place in Mombasa, Kilifi ,Kwale, Tana River, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni. Others areTurkana, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia, Siaya ,Kisumu ,Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira. The opposition leader has insisted that he will not take part in the fresh election if his irreducible minimums are not met.
Raila has been pushing for the resignation of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba ahead of the forthcoming General election.
The decision of Chiloba to take a three-week leave has not augured well with the opposition. According to the leaders, Chiloba has already done his part in regard to rigging out Raila, who is taking his fourth stab at the presidency.
