The historical handshake President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition chief Raila Odinga at the Harambee House in Nairobi seems not to be bearing fruits as expected, considering the series of political saga that has been happening in the country after March 9. Case in point the split up between Raila Odinga and NASA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula.

It is ironical that we expected the handshake to unite the entire opposition and its followers with the government only to create rifts between the opposition principals, their affiliated parties and the supporters on the grounds. ANC and Ford-Kenya have gone their way, Wiper has gone its way and leader Kalonzo Musyoka is planning to rebrand it to One Kenya Movement (OKM) to pave his way to the top seat.

The Luhyias and the Luos have for a long time have been known to be brothers politically, however, it is after the handshake that the two tribes became political enemies after it even prompted excursion of Wetangula from being the Senate minority leader replaced by Siaya senator James Orengo.

Miguna Miguna's case is another show that the handshake did not actually meet its reconciliatory goals. Should it have met the aim, the rift between Miguna and the Government would have been filled. This case clearly shows the enmity between the two entities because once the court ruled that Miguna is free to be allowed into Kenya then that was the actual way. However, the government through Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Immigration PS Gordon Kihalangwa chose to defy court orders a number of times denying him entry into the country.

Kenyans expected a national peace talk like this one between Uhuru and Raila to effect to all corners of the nation, outdo political differences and bring all the people of a nation together which was not seen in this case. The two should, therefore, hold another public discussion in a bid to cure Kenya's political illness and fully make Kenya one nation.
