Details have emerged on the exact reason President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Education CS Fred Matiang'i to replace the late Joseph Nkaissery as Interior CS.
According to The Star, the decision was arrived at after close consultations the president made with members of the Security Council.
Sources within State House said the Council settled on the Education CS because of his “firmness and commitment to a course”.
“After brainstorming over the sad events and state of the country’s security, the meeting, chaired by the President, settled on Matiang’i who has a similar work ethic to the late minister,” the source said as reported by the Star.
Executing the decision and announcing Matiang'i's appointment, the president insisted that the Security docket was important and that he was trying to ensure no vaccum was left in the docket as the country heads to the General Election.
“We have had an unfortunate incident this morning that we are currently assessing and addressing. But I take this opportunity to inform Kenyans there will be no vacuum in securing our country,” said the president as he addressed the nation from State House.
“I wish to assure Kenyans and all our friends of good faith Kenya is secure and I wish to take this opportunity also to let those who wish to see a destabilised Kenya, an unsettled Kenya, that we are strong and we are ready,” he added.
