The Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord) has been holding protests for the past four Mondays to have the IEBC disbanded over credibility issues.
Cord through its leaders, Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka have been insisting that the president, Uhuru Kenyatta, engage them in dialogue to solve the IEBC stalemate.
However, the president has no power of disbanding the electoral body as stipulated by the new constitution.
His engagement in dialogue with Cord is not a guarantee that IEBC will be disbanded since parliament is the route to be used. His engagement in dialogue is also on a voluntary basis and it is for the welfare of the country.
Cord have been aggressive when demanding for the dialogue and they should not make it look like the dialogue with the president is a must and that it will solve issues because they will still have to face the Parliament.
However, if Cord will stop the death of its protestors by meeting the president then the dialogue should be held as it will bring an end to the political tension already building in the country as a result of the demonstrations.
Cord's shift of its failures to the president's avoidance of conducting a dialogue on IEBC should be stopped and Raila Odinga and his fellow leaders should embrace the Parliament route of solving the stalemate.
