With just under one month to the August polls, political analyst and Nyeri Town Parliamentary hopeful Ngunjiri Wambugu has intimated that President Uhuru Kenyatta could be poised for a reelection win.
In an opinion editorial published with The Star Newspaper earlier on Monday, Wambugu argued that the continued onslaught of the Jubilee administration by the Opposition could catapult President Kenyatta for a second term, qupping that the Head of State's close rival Raila Odinga has been using propaganda to discredit the government of the day.
"The opposition has been campaigning against Jubilee consistently for the last four years. They have hammered at the ruling party every single day for those four years, pinned them down on every mistake they’ve made, attacked them using propaganda even where no mistake existed, condemned every project they initiated, and challenged every decision Uhuru has made as the head of state," he said.
He also took note of the political rallies across the political divide, arguing that the Opposition looks exhausted and less energetic towards the tail end of the campaigns - observing that unlike NASA, Jubilee looks more energized and upbeat.
"Finally, as we saw in 2013, UhuRuto are terrific at finishing strong; while Raila and his team are quite terrible at it. Uhuru can only get better, while Raila can only get worse," he argued.
He, however, conceded that this year's elections could be neck-to-neck, with NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga giving the presidency a fourth stab.
