President Uhuru Kenyatta's adviser on matters education Kilemi Mwiria has defended his defection to the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party.
Mwiria, who is eyeing the Meru gubernatorial seat, claimed that aspirants seeking the same position have crowded the Uhuru led Jubilee Party.
He further noted that Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua's party Maendeleo Chap Chap is friendly to President Uhuru Kenyatta, and that it fully supports his presidential reelection bid.
"My supporters have doubts about the party and have asked me to make sure I am on the ballot," he said on Thursday aas quoted by the Star.
"I am coming to a party which supports the President's re-election. I am coming to a party that is not only friendly but also development-conscious," Mwiria added.
Governor Mutua welcomed him to the party in a ceremony hosted at Lavington Hotel, Nairobi.
Mwiria vied unsuccessfully for the Meru governorship seat in the 2013 general election, but lost to Governor Peter Munya.
