According to Chimera, the two leaders were elected because of their performance scoreboards. The don also said that the duo could not have stood the wave of the National Super Alliance (NASA) in the region if their performance scoreboards were poor, adding that Jubilee is not popular in the region.

“If Mvurya and Mwashetani did not perform, they would be in the dustbin today. Their sterling development track records saved them even though their party remains largely unpopular in the area,” he said, as quoted by Nation.

In reference to the Kwale governorship race, Chimera said that NASA’s greatest undoing was failing to agree on a single candidate to battle it out with the incumbent Mvurya, who defected to Jubilee.

Mvurya parted ways with former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, accusing him and his Deputy Ali Hassan Joho of frustrating his leadership.

Mvurya contested against Former Kenya ambassador to Tanzania Chirau Ali Mwakere and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Dr Issa Kipera.

“The mess by the two Nasa candidates Dr Issa Kipera and Chirau Ali Mwakwere also handed Governor Mvurya an easy win following their failure to unite and field one candidate.”

In the meantime, Mwashetani is poised to succeed Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro as the jubilee point man in the county after the later lost during the last general elections to the incumbent Amason Kingi.
