Abdikadir Mohamed who served as Uhuru's adviser between 2013 and 2017 said uniting Kenyans goes beyond well-drafted speeches like the one the head of State delivered on Wednesday. He said uniting the country needs more action than talk.

Uhuru on Wednesday during his State of the Nation address in Parliament asked for forgiveness from Kenyans who may have wronged in any way. The president said to develop the country, Kenyans need to live harmoniously.

"So right Mr President! Yet our entire political edifice is built on tribal quicksand," Abdikador said in a tweet in response to Uhuru's message.

"To dismantle that destructive culture and confront the vested beneficiaries will take more than a great speech!"

Uhuru in his speech had said: "If Kenya is to remain strong, we must change our approach to political competition. We are proud, and rightly so, of our cultural heritage, but it does not follow that our ethnic identity is our political identity."

Uhuru was re-elected after the October 26, repeat election which more than half of the voters boycotted.

Opposition chief Raila Odinga did not take part in the poll after accusing the Jubilee administration of working with he IEBC to steal the poll in favor of the president.
