Jubilee Presidential campaigner Antony Kibagendi has dismissed claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta evaded Kisii Town on Thursday due to impending hostility.

Contrary to expectations of a number of his supporters, Uhuru’s motorcade followed an outer road which strategically avoided CBD.

In response to claims that Uhuru was keen to avoid confrontation with demonstrators, Kibagendi says the president had no intention to make a stopover.

“The itinerary was clear that he was to make a stopover in Marani which he did and later on in Nyamira. There is no instance that was ever changed.

“The president does not fear demonstrators because he has nothing against them. He believes in the rule of law and that is the point,” adds Kibagendi.

Protestors had thronged in the South Nyanzan town to show their fury over Uhuru’s continued attack on Chief Justice David Maraga.

Although Uhuru’s tour remained generally quiet, a number of disgruntled protestors periodically booed speakers in most of the president’s stopovers.
