President Uhuru Kenyatta has been claiming that he will rally the members of parliament to impeach National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga if he ascends to power.
The push to impeach Raila may end up being a farfetched dream considering the political landscape of this nation. If the claims of the opposition and ruling of the Supreme Court are anything to go by, Jubilee’s members of Parliament who were elected in a free and fair manner might be different from what we are seeing at the moment.
First and foremost, a good number of MPs know very well that they risk losing their seats if they go back to the electorate in the name of another election. These lawmakers are likely not to be on the forefront when it comes to impeaching an elected President.
Secondly, the political landscape of this nation will change once Raila ascends to power. Some of these leaders aligned to Jubilee are likely to remain silent over the top leadership of this nation for sake of their future careers. The current president will not have it easy convincing these leaders to smoke out Raila from power.
Thirdly, being elected on a Jubilee ticket does not make one a ‘slave of President Uhuru’. Most of these lawmakers were elected because of their leadership qualities and not allegiance to the current President.
