Kahawa is a suburb settlement traversing the Kiambu and Nairobi counties borders along Thika Road. It is located in Ruiru Constituency, under the leadership of Simon King'ara as the Member of Parliament.
Kahawa is further subdivided into Kahawa Wendani and Kahawa Sukari.
This residential area is a preference for most of the university students, from universities and colleges along Thika Super Highway. Most of these students are girls, who prefer staying outside the campus for various reasons.
Some decide to rent their campus hostel to other students, who are mostly non-government sponsored, who are commonly called 'parallel students' so that they can look for a bedsitter at Kahawa. The reasons why most students, girls, prefer staying at Kahawa are: Privacy purposesSome of them consider their privacy, especially when given a 4-to-share room. They sell their bed to other students who do not care about the privacy.Kahawa barracksYes, this might be the major reason in fact. With the presence of the army, security is always guaranteed. Some girls also find it easier to hook up with an army soldier as a boyfriend."This guy of mine was so loving, he was a soldier at the barracks. Every Friday he could take me out," said Jane, a former student who happened to be a resident at Kahawa Wendani. No limitations and restrictionsFreedom for them is freely given at Kahawa, unlike staying at the campus hostel where hosting a boyfriend, cooking from the hostel, drinking or smoking from the hostel is against institution governing rules. It is close to Thika Road If there is any need to rush to the city, it takes them few minutes. To earn respect among fellow students
Those staying at Kahawa, not within the campus are considered rich who come from better families, which automatically attracts respect.
Remember the reasons listed here may not cut across to all of them, there is always an exception.
